Artist Statement

My work in pit firing pottery is a reflection a deep connection to ancient techniques and the raw beauty of natural processes. Each piece is unique, shaped entirely by hand, and transformed by the unpredictable dance of fire and smoke in an open pitfire. The organic materials used in the firing such as wood, leaves and sawdust infuses the clay with rich, earthy tones and intricate patterns that can never be replicated. This method embraces  the element of surprise in my work, allowing the final outcome to be a blend of craftsmanship and nature’s influence. This harmonious interaction between the artist’s hand and the unpredictable forces of nature is what defines my art, making each piece not just a creation, but a journey.
