Emmi Roy is an artist rooted in the natural world. A lover of nature, she finds both her calm and her creativity in it: in the textures of bark and stone, the colours of changing seasons, and the quiet rhythms of the outdoors that surface again and again in her work.

Her hands first knew paint. For years she was a painter, and that painter's eye never left her; today it lives in clay. Working the material is, for her, a deeply therapeutic act, one that feels grounding, meditative, and endlessly expressive. Where others might see a lump of earth, she sees a surface waiting for colour, line, and light.

That painterly instinct led her to sgraffito, the delicate art of carving through layers of slip to reveal the tones beneath. A pioneer of the technique in India, Emmi has made it her signature, translating brushstrokes into line and depth etched patiently by hand.
